UV Sterilizer

My Project

I have a saltwater aquarium in my classroom but we are still trying to find the perfect supplies to run a happy and healthy aquarium. We have had this aquarium set up since September and we have been having issues with diatoms.

My students have a year long project to take care of the aquariums.

They have been working hard to clear out the diatoms in the salt water tank. They have tried setting the temperature to 81-82 degrees, using Pristine, pumping out water and placing new water in and cleaning all items in tank only for the algae to come back.

After some research they have found the next possible solution would be to use a UV filter and pump. The pump would pump water through the UV filter and the UV filter would kill all possible harmful bacteria, parasites and algae, diatoms are an algae.

In my classroom, we study Marine Biology and Oceanology. A real functioning marine ecosystem will help my students better understand their environment and how it functions. My school is only two miles from the beach so my students take a special interest in the marine environment and how to take care of it.
