My Students

My students consist of a diverse population of sixth graders in a middle school setting. They have a desire to learn more about science and the natural world around them. In my class, students are being introduced to new concepts and are excited to experience hands on labs and experiments.

I want to see my students take on a new level of ownership in their learning and develop life skills that will help them become successful, scientific thinkers of our future.

Encouraging hands on experiences increases engagement and interest level in the classroom. My students value the opportunities and resources they are able to access to and giving them additional tools allows many students in the future to benefit from these resources as well.

My Project

I would like to have various weather instruments in my classroom so my students are able to collect and analyze weather variables and make predictions regarding future weather. Having a weather station on our school will give the students access to immediate weather conditions for our exact location. With these tools, my students will be able to collect their own data and use it to cross-reference a variety of additional weather variables to make predictions and conclusions about weather conditions.

Giving the students access to different instruments empowers them to collect and track their own data, while understanding how to use different instruments, this will allows my students valuable hands on experience to become "meteorologists" in the classroom while we are studying our weather unit.

Using the tools that "real" scientists use make the content more concrete which fosters a greater learning within my classroom. Students for years to come will also get to experience the value of using these resources to measure weather variables and data.
