My students are a very diverse group of children with one thing in common - they all attend an urban, public Montessori school. Eighty-one percent of the students qualify for free lunch and 88% of the students are a racial minority.
We follow the teachings of Maria Montessori to meet the needs of the whole child - physically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually through following and allowing the child to guide his or her learning.
I am fortunate to be in a school that sees music as an integral part of the child's development and encourages musical growth and expression.
My Project
Ukulele fever is taking over my classroom! It is the most requested music activity and my students love learning about and playing them! Currently, we almost have enough for each child to share a ukulele with a friend, but in our dream world, we would have enough ukuleles to outfit an entire class of students.
With more ukuleles, each student would get optimum playing time in class- which translates to more learning!
I am requesting 4 more ukuleles to help us move toward our end goal of a 1:1 ratio for students to ukuleles. A little adds up over time and I excited to see what my students are able to accomplish once we reach our goal!
