Ms. Edmonds from Miami FL is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 3 laptop computers and 10 headphones with microphones for their Read 180 and System 44 program to assist with the improvement of their reading levels.

"When success is real, everything changes." That is one of the ideals behind the Read 180 program that my students participate in to improve their reading levels which are currently far below grade level. Unfortunately, we do not have enough equipment to use the program to its full potential.
My students are future doctors, lawyers, athletes, authors, and leaders.
They've named what they want for themselves in the future, and we are working together each day to make those wants a reality. My students are currently struggling readers who generally do not have access to a multitude of books or computer equipment. They also have been discouraged due to low scores on standardized tests in reading. They have no idea how smart they are, how bright their futures will be, or how much of a leader they can be today. The school in which my students and I learn together needs funding for simple things like copy machines that do not break down every day or a librarian to take care of the few books that still remain in the computer-less school media center. The situation is dire but not hopeless. I know there are brilliant minds in my classroom waiting to be opened, but help is definitely needed.
With three additional computers in the classroom and 10 working headsets, my students will be able to use the Read 180 program daily as the program was designed to be used. The program is intended to have three groups that rotate through three different learning stations (Teacher-led Group, Technology Group, and Independent Group). Currently we have 6 computers in class of which on any given day 4 may be working properly. With groups as large as 9 students each, many students miss out on the integral Read 180 program that helps them with the reading skills they are lacking. With 19 weeks left of school and high stakes testing breathing down my students' necks, it is more important than ever that we get the equipment we need.
As a group, we do not have much.
Each day we work with what we have to get by, but it simply not enough. Donations to this project will enhance our usage of the Read 180 program, which in turn will give my students the opportunity to live a thousand lives through reading. Living in a low-income community, my students see the same things every day. I want them to experience a world unknown to them to fuel their desire to not only experience the world but to change the world around them.
