My students need both the FitDesk 2.0 Desk Exercise Bike and two portable Pedal Exercisers so we can help all of our students exercise their brains and bodies.
My students are a group of around 300 lively K-5 kids living in an urban setting. Our school includes a diverse group of students, both socio-economic and racially, and we have a wide-range of students with differing needs in regards to learning styles, interests, and energy levels.
My students are an energetic group that really like to be involved in their work, physically and mentally.
They enjoy engaging activities, and are willing to work hard to get to a goal!
Our school utilizes many strategies to help our students reach their full potential by providing goals and rewards that are adapted to each student.
My Project
Our students have a desire to learn , but at times we all need to release a little extra energy. Many of our classrooms feature wobble stools, ball-chairs, standing desks, and other adaptive furniture. Unfortunately, the library has long been thought of as a place to just sit and read.
We want use these exercise bikes to move the library forward and to make the library more inviting for all students!
The addition of exercise equipment will help our kids get out some energy while reading or working on their Chromebook. Exercising will help increase their concentration and improve their learning. An exercise bike will also be a great addition for those cold winter days when the students have indoor recess. The staff can also benefit from the addition by taking a quick spin during their lunch or plan time, if it is not in use by the students.
Our library is a collaborative space that is utilized by all students and staff. By providing more innovative seating and workspaces, we are able to adapt to the needs of our diverse population. We would like to encourage our students to exercising their minds and bodies to help develop independent, self-motivated learners.
