My Students
I have a 5th grade class consisting of 27 kids who could really benefit from using technology to increase their reading abilities. I have 3 children with learning disabilities and two students who are identified with ADD. A majority of my students are below grade level and I'm constantly looking for ways to keep them engaged and promote a love for learning. I've come to realize that utilizing technology peeks student interest and keeps them encouraged to read and succeed.
The school in which I teach is a Title I school and all of our kids are on free lunch.
Our students come from very humble beginnings. I’m looking to customize my classroom to increase the level of reading and technology. I want to have a learning station with iPads so that children can engaged in reading opportunities online and play math games to increase their overall academic abilities. I know through using technology, my students will be more likely to participate. I'm excited to promote a love for learning and literacy through the use of technology in my classroom.
My Project
The materials listed in this project will give my students the ability to experience literacy and math activities, during center time, through the use of technology. Students will hear stories read aloud, participate in math activities with online manipulatives, and conduct research all while using advancements in technology. The headphones will allow students to utilize individual iPads and other devices independently and not disrupt those around them. These materials will open the doors for many opportunities!
Over the years, I've constantly placed earbuds and headphones on the school supply list to get each year.
However, usually only one or two students have a pair to use with devices. This makes it difficult to assign independent computer assignments because they constantly play the videos or assignments aloud, disrupting one another. Having a class set of headphones would eliminate this issue and make learning more personal.
I'm excited to give my students an opportunity to engage in high quality instruction and activities through the use of technology. Please help our class with this project!
