My students need 4 Chromebooks to bring science alive in the classroom. Chromebooks will allow them to see the unseeable, such as the far reaches of the solar system.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
By the end of the 8th grade, I envision my students understanding how science connects to their everyday lives, how they need to be an active participant in their learning, and that learning is a lifelong endeavor. I would also like them to understand how they impact and are impacted by the natural world, and how they can create projects that can make a difference.
I would like to teach my students how to be lifelong learners.
Our racial makeup is: Hispanic (47.2%), White (37.2%), Asian (6.7%). 56.8% of students are receiving a free or discounted lunch. This is the highest percentage in our School District. They are typical middle-schoolers. My students are interested in technology and are very social. They enjoy the opportunity to experience learning outside of the normal classroom setting, and with projects that are related to the real world.
My Project
Science should be a hands-on experiential class. Science is happening all around us. My students do not have textbooks. Science is constantly making new discoveries, and having technology in the classroom allows my students access to current up-to-date research on all of the topics we cover. My students will use Chromebooks for student-led projects in all of our units of study. Students will use Chromebooks to interact with various science simulations to help them better understand difficult concepts like cell division, astronomy, and climate change. Chromebooks will allow students access to current and relevant science research on the topics listed above. Students will also be able to use Chromebooks to conduct simulations on astronomy concepts, genetics, and global climate change.
Chromebooks in the classroom will bring current science topics to my students daily.
Discoveries in science are constantly occurring, and textbooks cannot keep up with the new knowledge.
Having access to computers in the classroom allows my students the opportunity to explore current research in science, as well as use simulations and videos to help them to understand the science concepts.
