Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title I public elementary school where the majority of my students receive free or reduced lunch. They come from very low incomes where their family's primary focus is to provide them with their basic and essential needs. Additionally, many of my students have learned English as a second language. To make these students even more exceptional, they are also gifted and talented, they are creative thinkers by nature and need to be constantly challenged.
My school district constantly reminds teachers that we live in a digital world and it is us up to us as educators to prepare innovative thinkers for their future--I take this role seriously.
I want my students to have all the necessary tools to succeed and flourish despite their backgrounds.
My Project
Information is constantly changing. Chromebooks will allow students to search for the most current information while learning how to distinguish useful from fictional information. My students are expected to research information on science topics and also complete cross curricular activities that will require them to find information, create projects, and save them. My student need practice putting projects together and actually typing their research and words. With a small ratio of classroom computers to students, students take hours typing and putting their projects together. More technology in the classroom will allow for more practice time to increase their speed and agility.
Additionally, my students live in a digital world where technology actually enhances their interest and excitement for learning.
I am excited about the ideas that will spawn from their projects because they are fully invested in what they are learning.
