Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many obstacles they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences in the music classroom.

My students are eager to learn new things and love to participate in hands-on activities.

They enjoy singing and playing classroom instruments. My students have very few opportunities to participate in active music-making outside of the school day; therefore, it is my goal to give them a variety of musical experiences during class time.

My Project

Students will use the computer to create and record original music compositions and performances as well as provide an outlet for digitally storing and viewing their compositions and performances using GarageBand. Remote learning has been challenging for my inner city students because of their lack of computer skills. Giving my youngest students (pre-K-2) the opportunity to create, view, and share simple digital compositions and performances will greatly help them to become technologically saavy as they continue to work their way through our online learning model and eventually move to hybrid learning in the near future.
