Using Tech to Help Students Reach Their Full Potential
Help me give my students access to online literacy and math platforms that rely on algorithms to catch and target holes in students' foundation of knowledge. Help me enable my students to pursue independent learning opportunities via tablets.
When I think about the group of 47 students that make up our second grade cohort this year two things come immediately to mind. First, the care and love that this group of students exhibit towards each other daily. The depth of compassion, patience, and tolerance they posses and choose to show each other makes me feel deeply optimistic about the kind of humans they will be. Second, is how unique an individual each of these students are - really there is no two alike in this group.
There is a vast diversity of thought, backgrounds, cultures, behaviors, and mannerisms represented in this cohort.
It makes for an extremely rich and interesting community and lays the foundation for some truly great discussions.
My Project
At my school class sizes average around 24 students and while having a large class has a lot of benefits, it also has some particular challenges. For example, the staggering range of learning levels (students who are above grade level to students below and all the students in between), can make meeting every student's needs very challenging.
While differentiation of instruction is a skill teachers have to get good at fast, the use of technology can make educators a lot more effective in this regard and can have a much greater impact on students' academic success.
In our second grade classrooms we would be using these tablets daily to give our students regular access to online math and literacy intervention platforms. This is integral to building their foundations of knowledge and expertise, as these platforms rely on diagnostic algorithms that identify and target holes in students' knowledge with precision.
