Help me give my students Circuit Cubes kits and parts, a LEGO WeDo kit, and giant sticky notes to use technology and engineering skills to create art.
Our school is a small, rural school in Arkansas made up of students in grades four through eight. While they are going through a difficult stage in the transition from kids to teenagers (as all middle school students do), they are among the most energetic and exciting age group to work with. When they get excited about learning, their enthusiasm explodes out of the classroom!
Many of our students face the challenges that poverty brings every day, but at school they have a chance to escape and learn how to overcome their challenges.
Science, technology, and engineering skills are important skills for students to learn to be valuable citizens in an increasingly digital world. What better way to teach them than by allowing students to express their creativity?
My project will allow students to increase their technology and engineering skills by creating art.
In an elective class focused on STEM, robotics, and coding, my students will use the Circuit Cubes and LEGO kits I have requested to create machines that can make art! They will be able to use the Circuit Cubes and giant sticky notes to create machines that twirl and spin to create circular patterns on the page. They will also be able to use the WeDo LEGO kits to create 3D sculptures that move and interact with the viewers. This will allow students not only to express their creativity, but learn valuable skills in the process!
