This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Sublimation is a printing technique that uses heat to transfer dye onto an endless amount of materials by making the transition between the solid and gas states. Students at our school will use this process to help create shirts, puzzles, and cups. While we already own the special inks and printers to make this happen, we are missing a working heat press and the blanks required to transfer the ink onto materials. Also included are various types of blank items that student images will be pressed onto. Just to be clear, these are student-created projects.

Students will learn not only how they can use science and art to transform ideas but also create tangible items that they can share with their families and friends.

Students will also use this process to create spirit items to help promote school pride. The heat press is the largest piece of equipment and the missing link to making my students’ projects a reality. Currently, we are using an iron to try to create the sublimation process. Unfortunately, without consistent heat and pressure like what is created using a heat press, we have had a lot of design errors on our projects, with some of their ideas not able to be created at all. We have talked to local t-shirt companies and learned how to use a heat press to make this idea become a reality. We just need help funding my class’s imagination. Finally, our classroom treasure chest seriously needs to be restocked so there are fun goodies included too!
