Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Thank you for choosing to view my project. I am a Pre-K teacher and work with four-year-olds in a low-income/high-poverty, urban school. My students struggle to meet daily needs due to limited resources at home. They come to school hungry, tired, and their clothes are not always clean. We have a washer and dryer at school and assist them when they are in need. We have a backpack program that sends food weekly to these students to ensure they have something to eat. They are desperate for attention and just want to be loved.
Even during their struggles, my students are motivated and eager to learn.
They are always happy and energetic when at school. I may not have control over their personal lives, but it is my goal to provide them with the best education possible!
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting will encourage my students to participate in dramatic play. I have included a doctors set as well as a vet set for them to use as they dress up and use their imagination. The vehicles and road signs will be used as they build with blocks. My students will be overjoyed to have new baby dolls to play with and take care of as they engage and play house.
Dramatic or pretend play supports social-emotional, language, and cognitive development by providing opportunities for children to practice important skills with peers.
When children engage in dramatic play as a group, it requires them to cooperate and negotiate roles. This gives them the opportunity to share ideas, solve problems together, and build conflict resolution skills. It also helps my ELL students with language and vocabulary.
