Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like to want to read but didn't quite have all the skills? What is one of the best ways to learn to read? By listening to stories read by others and hearing the flow of language.
My Kindergartners love to hear stories read by many voices.
They have a love of stories and by listening to stories they can use their imaginations and hear things they may have missed when reading by themselves. Kindergarteners focus on reading words individually versus the meaning of the story.
My Project
With this new Listening and Literacy Center my students will have the opportunity to hear stories. This will help to open the door to new voices and hearing the stories aloud how they were meant to be read. The wireless headphones will help with the management of the center and help the students not get intertwined with the wires (this can be a big challenge in Kindergarten rooms!)
My project is so important because learning to read is one of the most important skills any student can have.
This center will allow me to differentiate the stories for the students in my room based on their interests and reading levels. Being able to hear stories allows our imagination to run wild but to also realize that words flow together to create these magical worlds.
