My students need Replacement doll house furniture and doll families. They also need materials like magnet maze and water droppers to improve cognitive and fine motor skills.
My students are preschoolers with developmental needs. They range from 3-5 years old. They are not able to function in a regular preschool program due to their various disabilities. Many of my students live in high poverty areas and have many issues related to that socio-economic group.
Because of their disabilities, my students have not gained the skills needed to be successful in a general education program.
Our classroom focuses on motor, social, focus and attention, basic cognitive and language skills. I like to think of my job as teaching these children how to learn. The design of my classroom, material needed, and lessons reflect the various needs my students have.
My Project
The doll house furniture and dolls will replace the ones that were purchased several years ago and are now broken or lost. The doll house has become a focal part of the student's unstructured choice to play with. Many wonderful dramatic, social and language skills are being explored while pretending daily life experiences with it. The other items will be used to promote fine motor and cognitive skills through play and exploration. Without these materials, active and student driven learning is minimized.
My students are energetic learners!
They are also still learning how to use and play with what is in the classroom appropriately. This means every now and then I need to take inventory of the safety and availability of what my students have to interact with. The materials in this project will be used to freshen up those most loved items in the room which need to be replaced with new ones.
Each item can be used as an individualized learning tool or in cooperative, social settings which promote building motor, cognitive and social skills.
