Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is in public inner-city school with a newly established one to one iPad technology in third grade classrooms. Students use their iPads to practice skills, read books, create projects, and play educational games. My children are eager to use their iPads on a daily basis. Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activities can be brought alive with the hands-on Osmo applications. Our curious students love to spend time working together learning and exploring about the world around them.
My Project
Our class is one on one with iPads and students are eager to use the Osmo applications. Osmo fosters learning in key areas such as: creative problem solving, art, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and common core. Each application requires an iPad and a base. Currently we only have one base, so only a few students can utilize the Osmo applications at a time. With the additional bases and applications my entire class can work simultaneously on Osmo STEM activities. Osmo enables the iPad to merge the power of physical play with the digital advantages of real-time feedback. Playing beyond the screen invites students to collaborate on tables or floors while manipulating tangible game pieces such as number tiles, letter tiles, and coding blocks.
