I want my students to see connections between subjects and I hope that by using reading strategies in math they will do that.
My students are in a battle every day to get their basic needs met, let alone the little extras which could enhance their education.
We are a Title 1 School, and we have diverse population of students who speak many languages. I want to make sure that math is a language they are all fluent in!
My Project
I am requesting Post its, chart paper, graph paper, highlighters, and sharpies for my students to use in cooperative groups when reading and solving math problems. In our math workshop, my students are using the same strategies that we use to decode texts and comprehend stories in reading workshop. They will be using these materials to stop and jot about the question the problem is asking and highlight the important details. They will use the chart/grid paper to help with illustrations, all while solving problems!
Your donations will make it possible for my students to see that math and reading are not complete opposites and what works in one area can be carried over to another area.
