Using Every Minute to Learn and Grow!

Help me give my students Legos, board games, and puzzles puzzles so that our "extra time" can include structured learning opportunities that can advance social skills and provide opportunities to win and lose with class and dignity.

My Project

My classroom is a setting for students who have disabilities and we are working very hard on a lot of social norms and sportsmanship. The use of these materials will provide natural learning opportunities for my students to shine in their abilities to relate to one another appropriately and it will provide realistic, authentic teachable moments for me to correct behavior if needed.

We don't have "free time" in my class - rather, every moment matters always - and use of these materials will help ensure that students are provided with resources to use their time building on social and emotional growth needs.

Legos will help students grow in STEM areas and will be a motivating tool to help students complete non-preferred tasks. Board games and card games will help build social skills and create a culture of belonging and teamwork. Puzzles are great for the quiet students who need an outlet to problem solve creatively. Puzzles also help with positive talk complain and personal pride building. The puzzle mat will ensure that progress is not lost between classes or over weekends.
