I see our students as the little caterpillar from the story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" written by Eric Carle. Preschool is the first school experience for our students, and they come to us excited to learn and grow. As we teach them new concepts and they experience new themes and academic concepts, they continually grow into beautiful butterflies, ready and prepared to fly into kindergarten.
Our class consists of 20 students from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses.
We service students identified with specials needs, students with English as their second language, and students who are peer models.
Our school is located in the urban school district of Cleveland, OH where 100% of our students receive free or reduced-price meals.
My Project
Research shows that essential oils help regulate our bodies, our minds, and our spirits to achieve complete harmony. I would like to use oil diffusers in my classroom and utilize scents such as lavender (for relaxation), peppermint (for waking up our brains), orange (for energy), thieves (for immunity support), and tea tree and lemongrass (for disinfection) when my students are in my class learning.
The demands placed on children in school have played a role in children's anxiety levels.
Through the use of essential oils, my goal it to help ease my students' anxiety and enjoy learning in the classroom.
