Using Ears to Hear to Read
My students need a listening center to hear stories read aloud again and again which builds their vocabulary, fosters independence and improves their listening skills.
"To listen closely and reply well is the highest perfection we are able to attain in the art of conversation." Francois de La Rochefoucauld Our students don't have books at home or anyone to read to them at home. Learning while hearing a good story read to you is a great tool for our students.
My students are bilingual kindergarteners from Houston, Texas.
Our school has 875 students, with approximately 86% economically disadvantaged. Of these students, 75% are at risk of failing their grade level and 54% are considered Limited English Proficient. I currently service 22 children of the 123 kindergarteners on our campus. Our learners can be bright, motivated and very willing to learn!
Your help will directly affect our children! My learners are in the most important learning period of their lives - they absorb information like sponges and are constantly interested in learning new concepts. The listening center I'm requesting for them will help them learn English by hearing it, reading and then speaking it. Your donation will enable my children to master their grade level objectives across all subject matters.
My project is so important because I would like to provide my students the opportunity to experience literacy through listening would like to have a listening center to reinforce the importance of reading, writing and listening to words.
I need to help my students build a strong foundation to carry them into their successful career in education.
