Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love teaching Kindergarten! Kindergarten aged children are caring, curious, and eager to learn each day. The school I serve accepts children from different backgrounds, different neighborhoods, and many of which speak different languages. Several students have never attended school before while others have attended school in a different country.
Despite what makes us all different, we are joined by the common goal to give each day our personal best.
We start each day with our morning meeting and validate each other's presence. Each student is important to our day of learning. I teach all children to try their personal best and to treat everyone with mutual respect.
My Project
Teachers spend the most time with children and parents are always wondering what their child is learning. Through the acquisition of an iPad, I intend to incorporate the application SeeSaw and dedicate this iPad for capturing student learning that is then shared with parents. Doing so will help bridge communication between what is done in the classroom and what can be practiced at home.
The iPad will facilitate communication between home and school as well as serve as a platform to create digital portfolios.
The digital portfolios will help track student progress across the school year and hep inform instruction. The digital portfolios will be centered around tracking students' progress in reading via running records, capturing small group reading strategies parents can try at home, counting collections, and writing conferences.
The technology of the iPad will help inform instruction as well as provide additional information to families about their child's learning.
