My Students
My students are active and curious learners. They want to explore the world around them with their hands as much as they use their eyes. They would benefit from manipulatives to explore, create and problem solve with. In a world where technology keeps students interacting with a screen, it is important for children to have the opportunity to build strong oral communication skills by working and playing in groups to reach a common goal. I'd love for my students to come in and be excited about working together.
My Project
My students will have paint to use in introductory lessons in kindergarten. We will use this paint on the first day of school as a calming ice-breaker provocation. Students will then have the tools to develop pre-writing skills during our line study unit. During this time they will create long, short, wiggly, and jagged lines to enhance their fine motor control and awareness of directionality. They will build early math reasoning with our pattern unit where they use their line knowledge and knowledge of shades of color to create, extend, and explain visual patterns they observe. These fundamental skills will be the foundation of their education and allow them to have the most opportunity for success.
