My students are... well, they're six. Some love to read Pete the Cat while others read Judy Moody. Some love to count every number to 100 while others 1, 2, skip a few. Most love to play tag on the playground while a handful swing. All of them though - they all smile when I say good morning to them, they all give me a high five as they leave to go home, and they all have goals that they strive to reach.
My Project
National Geographic Kids books are perfect for my students! They are fun to read, give you great information about specific animals, and are at my student's grade level. I'm requesting a variety of National Geographic titles including Wild Cats, Elephants, Saving Animal Babies, Monster Fish!, Cats, Hero Dogs, Sleep Bear!, Birds, and Lucky Leopards And More True Stories of Amazing Animal Rescues. Additional books I'm asking for include Z Is for Zamboni, Of Thee I Sing A Letter to My Daughters, What Is the World Series?, and Jump! From the Life of Michael Jordan. Adding these books to our classroom will not only give my students more opportunities to read a different genre of books, but they will also be able to use them as they learn how to write informational pieces.
Less screen time, more books time!
We love utilizing the technology in our classroom and will continue to use it as a resource for all subjects, but having nonfiction books in the classroom will give my students the opportunity to learn how to research a specific topic in a different way.
