My Students
I am lucky to work with a very diverse group of 9th graders in English 1 and English 1 Honors, who are energetic and social. Each student brings something unique and special to our classroom and makes us who we are.
My students are passionate and eager to make connections between what they learn in class to their personal lives and what is happening in society.
They are innovative and creative and inspire me to work even harder to provide them with the best freshman English experience possible.
My Project
My students will use the Black Panther comic from the 1960's and compare it to the Black Panther Marvel's movie in order to explore how the status quo can change over time. They will make connections to current news articles and "Between the World and Me", by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Students will be able to use the comic books and copies of the book in class and be able to check them out to continue the learning at home.
My class is very diverse, and deserves to learn from a culturally and linguistically relevant curriculum that represents their culture and interests.
They will benefit from delving into significant works representing strong African American characters, stories and how it connects to and impacts their personal stories as they explore their connection to their school and community.
