Using Authentic Writing to Become Amazing Readers!!
My students need original and authentic experiences with literacy by creating class books. The binding machine, covers and coils will create classroom and student editions of the books we make together.
I teach school in a very special community that is diverse in both ethnicity and
socioeconomic status.
At my school 64% of the students qualify for low income and about 18% of our population are English Language Learners.
The students in my kindergarten classroom love learning and have a genuine curiosity to know more about the world around them. They are hard workers and come to school every day ready to work through challenges and encourage friends to do the same.
As a kindergarten teacher I am constantly blown away by the progress my students make every year and the no-quit attitude they take into first grade.
My Project
I chose a spiral bound book-binding machine and binding supplies that I will use to create individual and classroom books.
Seeing the pride and amazement on a child's face when they see their hard work published is beyond words.
They realize they too can be authors, illustrators, anything they want to be. The books we create are cherished by the students and their families for years to come.
This book binding machine will allow me to create classroom and student editions of the books we create and write together in class. Children will also be able to author their own books to be put on display during Author's Fair and Open House.
