Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are faced with the challenge of stringent state academic standards, half-day kindergarten, and many second language learner issues. Despite these challenges, they are eager to learn new information. Most students are successful, but some need extra practice in order to master the skills.
My kindergarten students are from a Title One school in California.
That means that many of them come from economically disadvantaged circumstances. Also, many of my students are second language learners. This means that many enter kindergarten in September knowing little or no English. Despite these circumstances, the children are enthusiastic and successful learners. They are eager to learn new concepts and enthusiastic about school.
My Project
The students will be able to use the iPad to practice science and math on apps designed for this purpose. Some students need extra help and practice in order to master the kindergarten curriculum. The specialized math and science apps give children extra practice in order to achieve mastery of these skills. Some of my students have used these apps on other teachers' iPads and they are so enthusiastic and have so much fun reviewing and learning material. My students would benefit so much by having access to this technology daily in the classroom.
This project will not only enhance the learning experience for the entire class, but it will also give extra support to those students who are struggling and need more practice.
