My students need sewing machines to learn how to sew, design and create their own projects. The Brother Sewing and Embroidery Machines are great because they can market customizable gifts, are portable & include all accessories.

Inner city kids need to feel empowered! And what better way than to teach them the important life-skill of sewing (no longer offered in school) and then how to promote and market their products through entrepreneurial lessons in topics like marketing and accounting? Students might not always see the connection between school work and real life, but authentic learning opportunities like this project that foster creativity, innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving will inspire life long learners and help prepare participants for life beyond school.
When I was in Middle School, there was an entire Home Economics Lab, equipped with mini kitchenettes and sewing machines. Lessons were full of great projects that were memorable because they were applicable to real life and being an independent adult.
Funding and focus have moved away from teaching "Home Ec" skills in school, but through donations, I will create an after school sewing club that also teaches entrepreneurship.
In addition to teaching the skill of sewing, I also want to teach students how to market their products. My undergraduate degree is in marketing and I can take students through the entrepreneurial pipeline- from deciding who your customer is, how to market to this customer, where and how to promote products, and how much to charge and basic book keeping. All of these skills will be useful to students as they embark on being fully functioning adults in the real world and empower them with skills
