My Students

S.O.S. Save Our Stuff! Our electronic projects are being lost in cyberspace!

I teach 55 4th graders in an urban area.

We've been able to purchase some netbooks to share with other classrooms in the building, but have run into a problem. When we try to save large amounts of data (pictures, videos, etc.), the machines can't handle all of the data. Sometimes one group will accidentally delete another group's work as well!

My Project

My students need 10 USB Flashdrives for our in-class research projects. So far this year, the kids have been using a lot of Web-based technology to help frame their learning in different units. We've used Glogster, Prezi, and Ning just to name a few. These projects include video, text, pictures, and sound files, and this year has included some of the biggest gains in understanding - all due to the Web 2.0 tools we've been using. These 4 GB flash drives are large enough that they can hold an entire year's worth of presentations for a child and then be transferred to a CD at the end of the year for them to take home.

With flash drives I don't have to apologize to students that their work is gone.

They don't have to give up recess time to make up for lost time, and we don't have to crowd the hard drives with large files. It will all be kept safe in our classroom and can be used on any machine. That will also alleviate the time of getting the right netbook!
