My Students
My students are going to change the world! They have big dreams, but as a school we sometimes lack the means to turn these dreams into reality. My students live in a vibrant community that is rich in culture, despite lacking economic resources.
My students are diverse leaders, leading change in the school and community as they advocate for LGBT, immigrant, women, and people of color’s rights.
I believe in my students, and am committed to providing them with the same resources that students at the most affluent schools receive.
My Project
My students care deeply about Native American and indigenous history and have asked for classroom resources that provide more coverage of native people in the United States. "Turtle Island" is a beautiful book with photos and illustrations that speak of the great civilizations that settled in the US long before Europeans.
By reading "Turtle Island," my students will learn a more complete version of United States history, one that starts with indigenous people with whom they share ancestry and traditions.
It is my hope that this will allow my students to see themselves as an integral part of this nation's story, rather than marginal and invisible figures.
