Ms. Kastens from Bridgeport CT is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a library full of books of United States history.
Most of my students are working below the fifth grade math and reading levels, but they always have the willingness to learn. We are an inner-city school where the average family falls into the low-income category.
The incoming 5th graders are an interesting bunch, but all are open to new activities and ready to learn!
We are a small neighborhood Title I public school and have only two classrooms per grade level. Every child in our school receives free breakfast and lunch. All the teachers, regardless of the grade they teach, have a strong relationship with all the students in the building. We do believe that it takes a village, and when the children graduate from our school, we all take pride in the fact we were all part of the process.
Our students come to school every day ready to learn in spite of the challenges they face on a daily basis. Because of that, they inspire me to live up to their expectations and give them a reason to overcome some of those challenges and be excited to learn new things.
Help! I am new to the fifth grade this year and need books for the classroom library. I hope the books of our incredible history will spark a desire in my students to love and appreciate the country we live in. We will use these books with close activities to help improve their comprehension and to organize key facts and main ideas, along with learning about our past history.
The history of the United States, from the wilderness and colonies to one of the influential modern nations is incredible.
Students should know more about this country and the knowledge they gain will produce a better appreciation of where they live. I would love to have an extensive library of books for my students to explore and learn about the beginnings of the United States.
