This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is a newly created, community based class. My students are K-2nd grade. We are just getting to know each other. They are learning their letters and numbers. Some are working on learning to read, others are working on their speech skills. We our working together on daily living skills and community participation. They love to play on computers and dance to a fun song.
Although, my students have many challenges, they come to school with a smile and eager to learn.
We are working hard to build a community in our room and in the school. Our school has a 90% rate of poverty and many of our kids come from other countries. However, they have embraced my new classroom as a part of their community. We are working together to make friendships and help my students be successful.
My Project
All of my students have come from different classes and moved in the middle of the year. They have had to go through another 1st day of school. I had to switch gears and go from a 3rd grade academic class to a K-2 community based class. Unfortunately, there are few materials for the new class because of the time of year.
These students have adapted well to all this change, and it would be an amazing gift to them to have materials to expand their learning.
They are working hard to learn their letters and the sounds that they make. Many of the items such as, the phonic readers, magnetic letters and the Hot Dot Phonics will help push their learning farther.
