My Students

I’m the librarian at an urban middle school that serves a diverse population of close to 1,100 students.

We have a busy library in a Title I school that includes books, magazine, audio books, and of course, computers for student use.

The library is the hub of the school, where students can find material for pleasure reading, homework, and research/projects.

Our students work hard all day, following a rigorous curriculum. They are constantly challenged to learn and think and work so that they get good grades and make good high schools, which will lead them to good colleges.

My Project

Our 6th grade students are studying the Japanese Internment in their ELA class. The students have read The Bracelet, a short story by Yoshiko Uchida and have been delving into primary source documents from the era. To enhance the unit of study, we have created a gallery walk to do with the students. There are 5 self-paced learning stations, that use different modalities, both audio and visual for the students.

But our photo gallery is sorely lacking.

The large poster-sized photos we created don't have the same oomph as professional ones. If we could buy the Primary Source Set that already exists, we could hang it during our gallery walk and engage our students.
