Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Living in an urban district located in close proximity to NYC, the students of EMS have been hit hard by the effects of COVID-19. Now they are learning from their homes with limited technology and unstable internet, yet they are logging in each day and trying to succeed! The hardest part is not seeing them in person every day to build strong relationships, serve as positive role models, and provide opportunities to make learning fun.
It has become clear that a teacher's job goes beyond the four walls of the classroom, and learning can happen anywhere!
Our students are resilient and they need our support more than ever. As we transition from traditional schooling to distance learning, it is even more important to give students meaningful opportunities for learning, as well as rewards to increase motivation. During virtual instruction, we are learning that it is essential to build relationships with students so we can give them all the tools they need to succeed, both inside and outside of the classroom.
My Project
This is the 5th project that's being submitted on behalf of our Middle School to request incentives for our students and support for their families during this difficult time. Our students are logging in and being productive during Virtual Instruction during the school year, and EMS wants to reward them with exciting rewards and incentives.
Our school wants to continue our monthly tradition of selecting winners for our Student of the Month, only now it will be done virtually, and gifts will be mailed to students' homes, at the discretion of our school administration.
Very often, students can struggle if they don't see a tangible reward or incentive insight. In an effort to generate even greater motivation to work hard during virtual learning, we would like to offer Amazon gift cards as an incentive for students who excel in their role as a student and actively participate as part of our greater school community.
