Each day when my students walk in to our Algebra classroom, they see a mural that my wife and I painted on the wall. It features a quote from Abigail Adams that reads: "Learning is not attained by chance; it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence." My students are special because they exemplify this tenet of education.
My students come from very diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, but they unite to become expert problem solvers in my Math classroom.
Many of them struggled with Math in middle school, but the resilience that they show as learners is truly exceptional. I push them hard to overcome any lingering negativity and reach their full academic potential. We remind ourselves each day that excellence is not an act, but a habit. By attending to the details, we will succeed in meeting our big, bold academic goals.
Last, but certainly not least, my students are fun. Their sense of humor keeps each day exciting and interesting. During the lunch tutorials that I host, students regularly come visit to discuss all sorts of interesting topics far beyond Math. I look forward to coming to school because of my students.
My Project
The new document camera and projector would instantly replace the antiquated ones that we are currently using in my classroom. The document camera is used for at least a couple of hours on average each school day. I employ it for reviewing homework problems, introducing new material and having students present their work to the class. The projector is necessary for simply displaying the work captured by the document camera, but it also projects the PowerPoint presentation that structures our lesson each day. Both of these technology items are vital to the effective operation of my classroom.
Our outdated classroom document camera and projector are in desperate need of replacement.
My school district is facing a monumental budgetary crisis, and I have been told that there will be very little funding available to replace our old technology as it expires. It is hard to say just how much longer our current document camera and projector will last, but I do not want to be stuck without functioning resources. We need new ones to safeguard our learning environment.
My student teacher and I also use our classroom projector to host "Game Night" for our students. We project that night's video game on the wall for everyone to watch together as students and teachers play. It is a great way of building stronger relationships with our students. Our current projector is not well suited to "Game Night" since it does not have HDMI capabilities. It would be nice to have a projector that readily accepts 1080p output from the current generation of video game platforms. The students would really enjoy the high definition experience.
