This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We love our kiddos here at our Elementary School! We live in the desert and could really use cold, filtered water to give to our kiddos. Water is important to help our children remain hydrated. Even more importantly, water is an essential treatment for diabetic students with high blood sugar. When a child's blood sugar is too high, water can be used to help bring the blood sugar down. While we do ask our parents to provide water for these students, they are not always able to. Us being able to provide water from our new water dispenser could help save a diabetic from a serious medical event. Speaking of saving kids, we could really use a first aid kit that is easily transported to wherever a student in need may be. This first aid kit will also be used whenever having an emergency drill. I am a registered nurse and am able to easily check a manual blood pressure. Nobody else at the school is trained to do this skill and I am not always here because I oversee multiple schools. An automated blood pressure monitor machine will allow students to easily be checked without a nurse being present.

We have requested reusable ice packs because we are not to use the the ice packs we have to treat anything above the neck.

At an elementary school, kids can feel intimidated about coming into the health office. Right now, our health office is plain and cold. We would love to to make it warm and welcoming with some fun decorations. Who doesn't love Peanuts (the characters not the food. We are a nut free zone)?!!
