My Students

I teach math and science to 49 fourth grade students this year. At my school, we really do strive to provide students with the comfort and care they need in order to be the very best version of themselves and succeed both academically and socially. We are a Title I school, with over 50% of our students coming from low-income families.

I am currently working on re-building our flex seating options.

I started the school year with a few older, donated seating options, but they weren't able to hold up to the wear and tear of 49 ten year olds. I'm hoping that in offering some new options to use during reading time, small groups, labs, and partner work, this will give students an opportunity to be comfortable and focused.

My Project

I am new this year to the concept of compartmentalized teaching. This means, instead of having the same twenty students in my room all day, I have 49 students that enter my room every day for math and science. I had minimal flexible seating options for small groups, labs, and group work. This has made it difficult at times to get students into small groups where they could comfortably work on various assignments and projects. With these new seating and group options, like the lap desks and floor cushions, we will have better designated areas for these work times in which students will have a comfortable and clear place to work.
