Our school is an academically successful, rural high school that is usually filled to the brim with about 900 wonderful students. Of course, COVID-19 is still present, but we are successfully "having school!" We are meeting the needs of those face-to-face and those who need to stay home for a while. We also serve a large military community. Our students are smart, athletic, and driven to succeed.
In the state's previous ranking system, our high-performing high school had been ranked as a top ten public high school in NC for eleven consecutive years.
We are proud of our success in the classroom.
Hurricanes, storms, and flood tides often impact our coastal community; they temporarily set us back. However, we are particularly strong when faced with adversity and my students remain that way now, mid-pandemic: strong, resilient, and flexible.
Regardless, we are on a roll. We are luckily located by coastal waters, and it's a perfect background to teach the sciences for which I am honored to be the facilitator. For my students, there's always something to improve on, excite our class, and re-energize our learning.
My Project
This project will provide updated periodic table resources in the form of a banner or chart, tapestry, signage, and a shirt for our science classrooms. Our school has been recently repainted and looks so clean, fresh, and beautiful.
Our older periodic table resources look so grungy and grimy, and they are also outdated as chemistry has now named and added additional elements on the table.
As we are learning in our classroom, having a large displayed periodic table sure comes in handy as we refer to it often. The students in our Science classes deserve resources that are the best. The project includes gum, a small motivating tool for our science students because mask breath is real!
