My students are a small, but very dedicated group that love working together to create a robot and to compete in robotics competitions against other similarly-minded students. They learn to design, build, and program robots to perform specific tasks during game competition. They also are judged on their team-building skills, community outreach, and STEM innovation as presented in team interviews and an Engineering Notebook.
Each student is very unique in their own special way. They are programming nerds, robot builders, joystick junkies, and fundraising freaks. Whatever their individual talents or interests, they work together to support and to challenge each other as they create the most competitive robot and robotics team possible. Above all, they are good students that strive to set a high standard of achievement and gracious professionalism for our school and community. And by the way, they have great fun doing it!
As a team, we have decided to move to a new way of design for our robot: 3D design. With 3D printing, we believe this will be efficient, will expand our knowledge and will pave the way to an improved robot for the upcoming year.
We need a ASUS VivoBook S Ultra Thin that is portable and capable enough to run the software needed for 3D design and printing. This same laptop will be used to for our robot programming. This laptop will be portable to move from classroom to classroom and to use at our competitions.
In Their Own Words
Our idea is to have a portable laptop that we can use for 3D printing, 3D design, and programming our robot. We want it to be portable so that we can take it with us to scrimmages and qualifiers. The idea of using it for 3D design is to make some parts for our robot.
This laptop will help improve our leadership skills by allowing us to take initiative on certain aspects of robotics. We as students will be able to do research on group projects, create presentations to show to our fellow team mates, and find new and better methods of operating our robot.
Attaining this laptop will open up many doors for our team, such as aiding us with new ways of operating and creating our robot and of providing a better way of communicating ideas and information with each other and with our robot. Our team will become better equipped to meet the challenges of competing and of learning at a high level.
