My classroom is made up of a spirited group of 7th and 8th graders.
Our students and staff are a tight knit group in a rural area and our K-8 building has an agricultural charter program.
Many of the learners in my class come from low-mid income families in the surrounding areas. Around 25% of my students received special education services.
Literature circles will support the various learning levels in my classroom. It is a great opportunity for students to learn from each other while engaging in discussion.
My Project
My middle school classroom is in need of copies of the novel The Watson's Go to Birmingham. Novel studies give students exposure to experiences, emotions, and different environments. Other benefits are providing an authentic experience with vocabulary, figurative language, story elements, and comprehension. One of the invaluable gains from a new piece of literature is developing essential social skills such as empathy.
Please help give my students personal copies of The Watson's Go to Birmingham.
This engaging novel teaches many life lessons as well as incorporates historical information told from a young boy's perspectives. Another benefit to this novel is that it gives my students a peek into a time period that they will explore in social studies class as well.
