My students are hard working and very energetic. They are creative and love to read! We are a year round school and I loop with my class which means I get to work with them for two years. Our school is Title I with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast, lunch, and snack.
"It's okay to be different" has been a positive motto for our class this year!
We are very lucky to be in a culturally rich classroom where we can learn about diversity. Over half of my students are receiving services for special education and ESL. We spend a lot of time building our community and appreciating each other's differences.
My Project
I read somewhere the room with the most books will see the most growth in student reading. Well, that is my goal. It's surprising how hard it is to find leveled books for emergent readers that are truly engaging with modern pictures. It's even harder to find these books in a non-fiction genre. These scholastic sets will allow my most emergent readers to practice with partners and small groups while building their skills to then read independently. These books are engaging with the use of modern pictures, repetitive sentence structures, and non-fiction topics. I know they will help my students make the growth in reading they deserve!
