My 4th graders come to school eager to learn and they love using Google Classroom as a mechanism to work collaboratively and independently. Instead of inundating my students with boring worksheets or workbooks, I make it a point to create exciting lessons that are accessed on our Google Classroom. Students use HyperDocs to help guide them through Texas History lesson and novels. They can view videos, go on virtual field trips, create virtual projects, and so much more. The amazing thing about all of this is students can even access their lesson at home. Sometimes I can edit with kids after school, in real time!
Herod is a Title 1 school where over half my students are from low-income areas in Houston and many of the families were severely impacted by Harvey.
We need all the help we can get to make our Google Classroom even more successful. My 4th graders are fearless when it comes to technology and have a desire to keep up with the demand to perform effectively in a high-tech world.
My Project
Students in my class have access to computers but some of our accessories are outdated, broken, or worn out.
New headphones, mouse pads, and new accessories will help my students use the technology we have more efficiently.
They will be able to listen to literacy stations or use speech to text to write.
Some of my students have special needs and the use of technology is one way they can have the same opportunities as a regular ed student. Listening to stories and lessons will help these students helps them retain valuable information and have the ability to use text to speech allows students to express what they want to write.
