My Students
My classroom library desperately needs an update! Many of the books that I have inherited from previous teachers were published before 1999. I need more relevant books to get my middle schoolers reading.
My students read at a variety of levels.
I have students reading at a 3rd grade level, all the way to students reading at a 10th grade level. Without a school library, I need to provide levels of books so all of my students will be able to find books at their level.
My Project
Please don't let my cheesy project title steer away from this project. I work at a small charter school in central Ohio. I started with this class in January 2020, had two months to get to know my students, then COVID hit.
I inherited a unique classroom library with books like Nancy Drew.
My students, however, are more interested in graphic novels and Harry Potter, but these books are expensive for a first year teacher. I'm starting this project based on a recent Zoom call with my students. I asked them for some book ideas for my classroom, and this list comes from their recommendations. Real-life 6th graders that want to read!
We don't have a school library and many of my students struggle to get to a local library. My classroom is their only source for reading books.
