Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My robotics students meet five times a week to learn about problem-solving and designing robots. Due to the pandemic, we were unable to compete last year, but we are looking forward to competing this year. We learn the impact of computing on society and the environment. One of the great aspects of teaching computer science is that students are engaged in a topic that is relevant and interesting. Computer science changes daily. There are always new innovations and computing ideas. My students have a fantastic time learning about programming, and the programs that students create are very personal and often an extension of their personalities. Students know that they have to work in teams and participate in discussions. It's very much student-centered in that they are doing the teaching and learning. They are very responsible citizens.

My Project

The organization FIRST has a great competition for FRC students. In learning how to build a robot, students must also build a drive station to drive the robot. Students will use these laptops as the drive station for their 130 lb robot. Students will use the drive station to navigate the robot through human-operated and autonomous modes of the competition. The laptop will store the program that has been written by student programmers. The controller (joystick) will be attached to the drive station. Students will upgrade their current drive station and it is sufficient but a bit slow during competition. This project helps students learn about STEM, especially engineering. They must learn how to make a working robot. The second laptop will be used by the marketing team to create videos during the competition. This will allow students to edit films and create animations. These laptops would greatly improve the team's current laptops.
