Help me give my students an amazing gift to remember their 3rd-grade year by gifting each of them their very own book by one of our most beloved authors.
Due to the short notice we have, my students weren't able to bring home many learning materials to conduct remote learning for the remainder of the school year. They currently are participating in online learning from their homes and have been doing the absolute best that they can, given the current circumstances. Free breakfast and lunch are available to all students during this time and hotspots are being provided to those in need.
During the school year, while conducting my read alouds, my students begged me to continue reading.
With joy in my heart, I can say that they are still doing the same thing during our virtual read alouds. I want to continue to foster this love for learning and reading with the help of these books.
My Project
From the beginning of each school year, my goal is to cultivate a love for reading in every single one of my students. Louis Sacher's, Sideways Stories From Wayside School series, have been my magical tool in doing so.
Since the beginning of this quarantine, I have thankfully been able to communicate with my students through technology and it has been a blessing.
However, I hear the same thing repeated over and over again in regards to not having any books of their own at home and only being able to rely on online resources.
We were right in the middle of conducting book clubs as a class when the quarantine occurred. I would love to be able to gift each of my students with their very own copy of Louis Sacher's newest Wayside School novel in order to conduct one last book club as an entire class. This would continue to nourish their love for reading and allow them to have a positive and surprising ending to their 3rd grade school year.
