Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a Pre-K classroom consisting of 4-year-old boys and girls. Many of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes in the inner city of the largest urban school district in the state. The majority come from homes where English is a second language. The students and their parents manage to rise above it and come to school daily ready to learn through play.
A typical day in our classroom is full of laughter and a sense of security.
They look forward to the hands-on activities that help to foster a sense of community.
My Project
My students are curious 4 year olds that like to explore and investigate. They are constantly making discoveries in the world around them. Using their eyes, ears, nose and hands they have covered every inch of our classroom and playground.
I want them to learn there is more to the world than meets the naked eye.
The materials in this project will allow students to examine objects even closer by using microscopes, binoculars, magnifiers and other investigative tools. Properties of light will be discovered through examining prisms and lights using our light table. The slides and specimens will allow them to make discoveries about life cycles and insect development.
