Mrs. B. from PA is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a trip to NMAACH to learn about African-American history so it can come alive to them!

Even middle school students want to be successful learners for a bright future regardless of their current situation. My sixth graders want to be winners in life. Many students have experienced setbacks and trauma but need to feel as if their life matters. They need to know that when they walk into my classroom that it is a safe, nurturing, and loving environment. It is filled with opportunities for them to learn, grow, and make their dreams become a reality!
It's so important for history to come alive to students! The 6th graders at my school are eager to learn about who they are and the contributions that African-Americans have made in the United States. Too often, they are taught about other perspectives different than their own and have had a limited understanding of the rich heritage and positive influence that African-Americans have had on the foundation of their country.
What better place to visit than the NMAACH where there are, "85,000 square feet of exhibition space, nearly 3000 objects, 12 exhibitions, 13 different interactives with 17 stations, and 183 videos housed on five floors," documenting African-American life, history and culture.
This will be an epic educational experience that takes students out of there neighborhood and comfort zone to visit historic Washington, DC. This trip will propel students to invest more in their education and take a deeper interest in social studies.
Students will be able to listen to an audio tour and walk around on five floors bringing history knowledge to life. They will be able to share what they have learned through a writing activity, Google presentation and teach their parent facts and information the learned at the museum.
