This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a unique group of kindergarten through fifth grade students in a self- contained classroom. All of my students fall under the exceptionality of Autism. My students have a wide range of abilities that include both verbal and nonverbal communication. I am so proud of the progress I have seen this year in communication, social skills, functional skills, as well as core academic areas.
They deserve every possible opportunity to be successful.
They are held to a high standard, as I expect the best from each of them. My aim is to provide them with skills and resources that they are able to use inside and outside of the classroom.
My Project
I am reaching out to diversify some of my resources to better meet the individual needs of my students. Most of my students receive occupational therapy, so the “my first washable markers” and “easy- squeeze fine motor scoops” serve to help with fine motor skills, but also allow the students to be more successful in the activities they participate in during class, such as counting, writing, and categorizing objects.
Social- emotional education is a driving factor when working with students with Autism.
I would love to have the “moods and emotions mirrors” to supplement my lessons on emotions in order to give them the opportunity to make a concrete connection between the abstract concepts of feelings and what each emotion looks like in their own body.
