The students in our STEAM Magnet program are part of an inner-city community where they have very few opportunities to experience hands-on activities. These students are first-fifth grade students who are exploring brand new learning and experiences in a STEAM Magnet school. These students not only show perseverance in school but in their everyday lives. They work very hard and hope for a better future, despite the meek circumstances that surround them.
The sudden unforeseen circumstances of distance learning has redefined learning in a way that currently affects our students in countless ways.
My students, although it may be difficult, are working their very hardest to make this work. They are using any and all resources they have in order to keep the learning going and I am beyond amazed at their perseverance and dedication to learning.
All of my students are currently working remotely from home. They are required to show up to class on their devices every day, participate and work hard. Every single day they strive to be better. The excitement they have for learning makes me feel excited and proud to be their teacher. Unfortunately, many of the hands-on experiences we would have in a classroom full of supplies is not as easy.
Allowing my students hands-on experiences while at home is extremely important and valuable to their education.
We will use these Robotics STEM kits and Science kits while working together on our Zoom calls. The kids will be able to build robots “together” and complete science projects such as mixing to make different solutions, making slime, and many other projects. This will allow my students to still learn in an exciting and authentic way through experimenting and having fun the same way they would in the classroom.
