Help me give my students incentives that will encourage time away from technology. As part of our incentive program for completing i-ready lessons, I want to encourage students to do hobbies that get them unplugged.
Our school is in a rural farming community. The community is made up of hard-working people and is very diverse. The school is the heart of this community and parents are often seen helping with school-related activities. Because of a strong home-school connection, the students are excited about school and want to do well.
This year our students are being challenged with a very rigorous curriculum and we need to incentivize our classrooms to keep them motivated to do their best!
We, the classroom teachers, know doing well is important to them but at the same time they are going to have to put in additional hours and be motivated even at home to complete additional coursework and rise to the current expectations. This will be tough. Many of our students do not have english as their first language and/or come from low income homes.
My Project
The materials in this project are a supplement to our incentives program for completing i-ready lessons in both reading and math. These items will be available for students who save their "Mustang bucks," in order to make larger purchases. At the same time they are learning about reading and math, they will also learn the value of saving money and setting goals.
These items for student purchases are to encourage them to "unplug," from technology and get outside.
We have included camping items, outdoor play, and fishing equipment. These items are highly sought after by our students as many of families enjoy outdoor activities. Our students will be so excited to earn these!
