My Project

My students, participants in intervention groups as "struggling readers," become so excited by the thought of reading chapter books. They want to read a good story, or learn about an interesting topic using books that look like the books of their "on grade-level" classmates. Typically, during intervention, my students read word lists, sentences or short passages linked to their specific phonics lesson- necessary practice but not always exciting.

These decodable chapter books will motivate my students because they provide engaging stories using carefully selected words that my students will be able to decode and read fluently.

With sets of 2-3 books, my students will read together in a small group, and also have a chance to read independently. The Toucan Series are richly illustrated books, both fiction and nonfiction. The other chapter books are fun adventure stories, some in dyslexic font for even better access.
